Dtek [hearts] Coworking

August 25th, 2010 by Andy

I’m thrilled to be back in Seattle. (The Pacific Northwest is the best place to be in the late summer!) There are many stories to tell about the move out here from Brooklyn, but one particular bright spot has been my new office environment.

I mentioned coworking in my last post, but that was mostly anticipatory. Now that I’m settled in and have spent some time at Office Nomads, I’m ready to evangelize!

I’ve worked in many different environments in my career — from my first home office (literally in a closet), to independent studios, to small offices, to gargantuan, corporate office buildings (alright, those have just been for client meetings :) ) — and my current situation is my favorite, hands-down.

The coworking space offers the objective advantages of a larger office, while fostering creativity, community, and workplace synergy in a way that independent workers and telecommuters can easily plug in to, for a fraction of the cost of running their own office. And all this without the trappings of normal office politics :)

For a geographically-diverse business like ours, where our normal workday involves telecommuting together from across the country, that’s pretty spectacular.

As coworking enthusiasts always say, it’s ultimately about the people. There’s a great community at Office Nomads that I’ve enjoyed personally and has already proven valuable professionally. Kudos to co-founders Jacob and Susan for kicking things off, and cheers to all of my fellow nomads for creating such a fabulous workplace!

New web site for Seattle Performance Medicine

August 31st, 2008 by Andy

spmedicine.com screenshotWe’ve known Dr. Emily Cooper at Seattle Performance Medicine for years. And most of that time we’ve been nagging her to rebuild her web site… Well, we finally pulled it off!

This one was a collaboration with Heather at Bad Feather. Heather worked with Emily to develop SPM’s new branding and logo, and design the graphics for the site. We then built the new spmedicine.com. The site is clean and elegant, establishes SPM’s new visual identity, and finally gives an accurate representation of SPM’s work! And with this modernization, the site has moved forward in leaps and bounds in terms of search engine optimization, accessibility, and ease-of-maintenance.

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let Emily speak for us. We were pretty flattered when she said “This is the best thing I have done for my business!”. Check out the new online presence for Seattle Performance Medicine at spmedicine.com.

Moving to Brooklyn!

April 19th, 2008 by Andy

Last fall we mentioned that there were some geographic changes on the way, and here they are… As of this summer, I’ll be heading to the east coast and joining Rhys in Brooklyn!

For our Seattle-based coworkers, colleagues, and clients, I’m sorry we won’t be able to meet face to face too often anymore, but we don’t anticipate any other changes to our working relationship. If you have any concerns or questions about this move, please get in touch.

I’m excited to be joining physical forces with Rhys again after many years of living and working 2000 miles apart. It’ll be great to be geographically closer to some of our clients in New York, too.

This will mean some down time for me this summer — mostly during the month of June. We’ve already been discussing this with clients we’re actively working with. For anyone else who knows they’ll need work completed around that time, please let us know.

Wish me luck!
